General Women's Union (GWU) was established under the Chairmanship of H.H. Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak on 27th August 1975 under the Federal Law No.(6) of 1974. It is The National Mechanism For Women’s Empowerment and Leadership in the UAE.

GWU comprises of women from local tribes; mostly elderly ladies whose expertise lies in crafting traditional handicrafts such as Tilli work, key chain, tissue boxes, frames, emirati dresses and perfumes.

In association with GWU, India Palace is keeping alive the history and tradition and handicrafts of UAE, inspired by Sheikh Zayed quote “He who does not know his past , can not make of his present and his future, for it is from the past we learn," Sheikh Zayed.

SFC Group’s MD K. Muraleedharan personally visits the GWU center and meets all artists. All the products are personally collected from the center.

India Palace displays GWU Emirati women members' handicrafts in its bangle counters, and does not take any rent or profit from the artists. Once things are sold, the team at India Palace sends the amount to GWU.

Apart from selling the traditional Emirati handicraft, India Palace invites all 100 ladies every year for mother’s day and Emirati Women’s Day for lunch to make them feel special. All ladies are welcomed with a generous shower of jasmine flowers.

Emirati Women's Day celebrations took place on Thursday, 26th August this year at India Palace Dalma outlet Abu Dhabi and India Palace Al Ain branch.

All the women at the Abu Dhabi outlet were welcomed personally by Mrs. Beena Muraleedharan, wife of SFC Group MD K. Muraleedharan and Danesa Raghulal, wife of SFC Group Director, Rohith Muralya.

Rohith Muralya, Director at SFC Group says, "As we have a long relationship with GWU, we love and value GWU most because in this center, so many of our elderly mothers are there and we love to meet them and see smile on their face when we invite them."

Additionally, India Palace is offering 20% discount to all Abu Dhabi Business Women Council members {2000 members} and GWU ladies {100 ladies} from 28th August to 2nd August 2021

Lulwa Al Hamidi, Director of Heritage Department of Industries of GWU added, “The management of the Crafts and Heritage Industries of the General Women’s Union would like to thank India Palace Restaurant for celebrating with us Emirati women's day. The restaurant has displayed its generous patronage to the Emirati women day as a recognition of the Emirati Women’s role in the development of the nation and the preservability of heritage through displaying the traditional handicrafts at their restaurant chain, which reflects the strong ties shared by the UAE and India."

Rohith Muralya, Director at SFC Group says, “Be it politics, social issues, academics, arts or science, the women of the UAE have made their mark in every field and have been instrumental towards making the UAE a place of equality and inclusion.
